Yu Lei currently serves as Phoenix TV's political correspondent. She joined Phoenix TV in 2006 as a correspondent.

Yu Lei has extensive experience covering politics, policy and breaking news, such as earthquake, flood, coalmine accident, etc. She reported Yushu earthquake in 2010 and interviewed China's former Prime Minister Wenjiabao. She was chose as the best journalist of the year by cyber users on 2000 for her excellent performance on news reporting. Oriental Outlook magazine run by Xinhua news agency awarded her the best reporter on breaking news in 2010.

She published a book <on the scene> in 2014 which is one of the best selling on Amazon China.

She graduated with a B.A from Communication University of China and with a Master degree on Mass communications from Leicester University of UK.
